The animated GIFs

Drawn by anonymous GeoCities users in the late 1990s and early 2000s, rescued by the Internet Archive and made searchable through GifCities. The artists are almost all unknown; each one links back to the archived page it was found on.

Window chrome

98.css by Jordan Scales, licensed MIT. The bundled Pixelated MS Sans Serif is a web conversion of Microsoft's typeface, which is not open source.

The virtual machine

v86 by Fabian Hemmer (BSD-2-Clause), booting FreeDOS, KolibriOS or Linux via SeaBIOS. v86 emulates hardware only and ships no operating system.
